In my opinion, the FNMI culture and community is very interesting. My favourite part is the spiritual side to it all. For example, Sweat Lodges where they go to heal and cleans spiritually, mentally and physically. Sweat Lodges are basically saunas, easy enough, but they hold a greater meaning. In a sauna you go for the heat. It's a relaxing spot, which it also is very relaxing in the FNMI commmunity however the people don't go simply to relax. They go to heal. It's the type of thing you either believe in or don't. Like the burning of sage. Sage is burned and it's smoke is spread around with a feather to rid of the negative energy with in a place. Sometimes they even burn sage to rid peolpe of their negative energy. I my self have sage in my bedroom. Whenever you feel negativity you are to burn it. Alot of factors in the FNMI culture is very spiritual.
I also really loved learning about the Pow Wows. Pow Wows are basically celebrations with dancing and singing and music. Each performer has a story to tell in their art. The dancers go up on stage to perform their story while the drummers try to trick them by playing unknown music. The dancers job is simple, to do their dance to the unknown song. Pow Wows are very well known for their elabrate costumes. Each one hand made, every feather down to the last bead. It's very beautiful. I love to dance, it's my way of expressing my emotions. Pow Wows seem like something I would love to one day watch or even be a part of.
The FNMI culture is truley mesmerizing and I would love to learn more about it. I am most looking foward to learning about all the spiritual aspects of the culture.
